Video installation, five looped videos
“Schon immer so gemacht. Noch nie so gemacht.” is a video series consisting of five scenes of lay actors performing everyday conversations that draw attention to how mindset, social convention, and judgement are evident even in brief remarks. In the scene “On the street,” for example, it is a single comment made in passing that reveals a whole spectrum of paradigms and prejudices. In the other four videos, which were shot in the same rooms in which they were presented at the "Hotel van de Velde" exibition in the Villa Dürckheim in Weimar, details of setting are chosen and designed to match the depicted situations and persons. The various scenes resemble each other in giving the viewer a sense of voyeurism. In the dialogues, forms of consensus and dissent are casually developed and insights open into the psychological complexity of the so-called normal. //
