// ARTIST STATEMENT
My work centers on the
phenomena of everyday life. Often a reenactment of the
real, it deals with the representation of the so-called
normal, primarily in the form of detailed models of rooms,
larger installations, and video work.
My models and installations explore the public and private
environments within which human lives unfold. The models,
miniature reproductions of spaces, emphazise the impact
architecture and furnishing have on human behavior and
orientation. The larger installations try to represent
aspects of everyday life without striving to reproduce
reality.
My videos consist of realistic stagings of seemingly banal
situations. Most of the scenes explore patterns of
conversation: symmetrical and divergent reactions. I am
also interested in the impact of pride, disappointment,
shame, embarrassement, and the social factors that possibly
provoke these feelings: conventions, prefabricated
opinions, and expectations.
On and off, I have also made figurative miniatures of
myself and of friends. Molded from resin and painted in
detail, they serve as real-life action figurines and embody
my concern for the personal as both emblematic and unique.
Since art school, living and working in a community and
facilitating exchange and collaboration have been very
important to me. I have curated and organizied various
temporary exhibition spaces and projects, most recently the
floating series, curated in cooperation with the poet Jesse
Seldess, which encourages contact between artists from
different disciplines by combing exhibitions with readings
and concerts. The series also publishes an edition of
artist-designed poetry broadsides as well as prints,
photographs, and other multiples. //
